British police to explore new ways to fight rioters

London, Tue, 10 Apr 2012 ANI

London, Apr 10 (ANI): Skunk oil pellets and anti-laser technology as well as projectiles containing irritants are among ideas being put forward by the British Government scientists to help the police tackle future rioters.

The police officials have reportedly supported the idea and said, "No idea's too stupid or 'off the wall' to consider," the Telegraph reports.

Scientists hope that rioters will go home and change their clothes after being struck with pellets containing foul-smelling liquids.

According to reports, the ideas were produced following a brainstorming event, convened by the Home Office's centre for applied science and technology (Cast) last autumn in the wake of the widespread chaos in Britain during the summer.

Among other ideas described were projectiles containing chemical irritants that would be fired by police and that are now in the final stages of development and intended to replace plastic bullets, according to the briefing. (ANI)
