Indian delegation led by Sushma Swaraj to visit Lanka's war-torn areas

New Delhi, Apr 8 (ANI): In an endeavor to reinforce India's commitment towards ethnic Sri Lankan Tamils, a delegation of Members of Parliament led by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, will be visiting the island nation from April 16 to 21 to assess the resettlement and political process in war-torn areas.

Representatives from the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Left parties will figure in the 15-member multi-party delegation, which is likely to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The delegation will include Congress lawmakers Sudarshana Natchiappan, Manicka Tagore, and N S V Chithan, DMK MPs T K S Elangovan and Prahlad Joshi, and BJP MP C. P. Thakur. T K Rangarajan will represent the CPI (M).

The long-awaited visit by the delegation, which would be traveling to Jaffna and Kilinochchi, comes close on the heels of India voting against Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.

India was among the 24 countries that voted against Sri Lanka at a session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on March 23. (ANI)
