Yemen President Mansour Hadi fires scores of old-regime loyalists

Sanaa, Sat, 07 Apr 2012 ANI

Sanaa, Apr 7 (ANI): Yemen's newly appointed President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi has reportedly fired several old-regime figures in a major shake-up of the country's military.

Hadi said in a statement that four governors and over a dozen military generals were sacked to make way for new officials.

His move followed concerns that his predecessor was using the loyalists to destabilize the country, Fox News reports.

People replaced include some of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh's relatives, including his half brother, who was air force commander and his nephew, who headed the presidential guard.

It's a significant blow to Saleh, who had clung to power during last year's uprising until he eventually signed aUS-backed power transfer deal. (ANI)
