Rooney picks striker Welbeck as Man U's player of the season

London, Apr 5(ANI): Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has picked strike partner Danny Welbeck as the player of the season for the club, and even backed him for playing an important role in the Euro Cup for the England team.

In his first full season with the club, Welbeck has already started 34 games, and scored 10 goals, including some very crucial ones.

Welbeck has also broken into the England team, and is the favorite for them to start the first two matches in the Euros due to Rooney's two-match suspension.

"There are a few candidates for our player of the season, but I'd have to say Welbeck. To play so many games (34) for United in his first full season has been brilliant. There has been a lot of pressure on him but he's done well and scored some important goals," The Daily Star quoted Rooney, as saying.

"He's always a threat in the box as well. He's quick and a difficult player to play against. I think he'll become a great player, not just for United but for England," he added. (ANI)
