New Delhi, Mar 31 (ANI): Promoters of Essar Group Ravi Ruia and Anshuman Ruia and I.P. Khaitan and Kiran Khaitan of the Loop Group, who are accused in the 2G spectrum scam case, appeared before a Delhi court on Saturday.

Counsel for the Essar Group Mukul Rohtagi told reporters that the accused had appeared in court and had filed their bail applications.

"All the accused appeared in court today. The four other accused who are Ravi Ruia, Anshuman Ruia, Mr.Khaitan and Mrs. Khaitan. All of them appeared in court today. We have filed their bail applications. The court has ordered CBI to file their reply if any. The matter will be heard on the April 21 so far as the bails are concerned and of framing of charges. Bail and framing of charges both will be argued on the 21st," said Rohtagi.

Rohtagi later added that this case was not about corruption and that his clients had never conspired with government officials.

"There is no question of any prevention of corruption act in this case because the charges are only under two sections of the Indian Penal Code. It is not a case of corruption, it is not a case of any collusion between these accused and any government officer, and therefore prevention of corruption is out of the way," said Rohatgi.

Last month, an application was moved by the accused, seeking an exemption from personal appearance on grounds that they were residents of Dubai and were not served the summons on time.

The Supreme Court on February 3 had revoked all 122 telecom licenses issued under a scandal-tainted 2008 sale.

Former Telecom Minister A Raja was forced to resign in 2010 after being charged with giving away telecom licenses in 2008 at well below market prices. (ANI)
