New Delhi, Mar 29(ANI): Australian captain Michael Clarke will play for the Sourav Ganguly-led team, Pune Warriors in this year's Indian Premier League to be held between April 4 and May 27.

The announcement was made through a news release, in which team officials described Clarke as "one of the world's best cricketers" and expressed hope that he would be an asset to the team, Sport 24 reports.

Clarke, who has played 80 Tests, 212 one-dayers and 34 Twenty20 internationals, had avoided the IPL during the first four seasons.

Pune is without regular captain Yuvraj Singh, who is recovering from cancer.

South African batsman Graeme Smith, Australian leg-spinner Steve Smith and Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews are the other prominent players in the Pune team. (ANI)
