BJP urges Hazare to avoid making derogatory remarks against lawmakers

New Delhi, Wed, 28 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 28 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged veteran anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare to refrain from using derogatory and unparliamentary remarks in his speeches against lawmakers over the Lokpal Bill.

The BJP's 'advice' came soon after senior party leader Sushma Swaraj lashed out at Hazare for using inappropriate words against parliament and its lawmakers, saying the anti-graft lobby seemed to have deviated from their path.

Echoing Swaraj's stand, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said: "We support his campaign and vision for the formulation and enforcement of a strong Ombudsman Bill. The BJP has, both inside and outside the parliament, actively campaigned for this cause. As far as the use of language is concerned, we expect them (Hazare and his aides) to not use very strong and bitter words (against parliamentarians) while raising the issue of Ombudsman Bill."

Hussain also took on the central government over the row surrounding the creation of a separate Telangana state.

"The BJP has always been in favour of the creation of Telangana state. The decision to create the state of Telangana was announced in the middle of the night. This government is responsible for disturbing the atmosphere in the region by not implementing its announcement," he said.

"We support the cause of Telangana. There is no point delaying the enforcement of the government's promise in the wake of the tense atmosphere and turmoil presently prevailing in Telangana region," he added.

The Congress-ruled government had deferred the decision to carve a new state of Telangana out of Andhra Pradesh, causing immense unrest in the region.

The chances of an immediate resolution, paving the way for the formation of Telangana appears slim, as most politicians are sharply divided within their own parties on this issue. (ANI)
