Vettori urges Flynn to show his aggression as a batsman

Wellington, Mar 22(ANI): Former Kiwi captain Daniel Vettori has welcomed Daniel Flynn's return to the Test side for the first time since December 2009, and has urged the Northern Districts' batsman to continue his spanking aggression against South Africa.

An aggressive approach towards batting along with three centuries in his last four innings helped Flynn earn a recall in the New Zealand Test team against South Africa for the final Test match in Wellington on Friday.

"He [Flynn] has overhauled his technique and he's gone back to his roots in a lot of ways. He's a very aggressive player. Maybe some of the public in the past may have seen him as a gritty, dour top order batsman but he's actually turned himself into an incredibly aggressive one," Stuff.co.nz quoted Vettori, as saying.

"He's not going to sit around and wait for things to come to him. I assume he'll continue on that way, and it's brought him as lot of success over the last couple of seasons when he's been injury free," he added.

Vettori said there was no better time for the left-handed Flynn to return, feeling good about his game, after scores of 113 not out, 47, 68, 136, then 123 not out against Auckland on Monday.

Coach John Wright has already stated that Flynn would most likely open the innings with Martin Guptill in the final Test. (ANI)
