Univ rugby team disbanded after players dress up as Kony, Speed for party

London, Thu, 22 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 22 (ANI): A student rugby club has been suspended after players dressed up at a 'bad taste' party as Baby P, a member of the Ku Klux Klan and the late Wales manager Gary Speed.

Players were accused of indulging in sexist and racist behaviour on the night out and the team has now been banned for the next 18 months.thers were kitted out as Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony and a Ku Klux Klan member.

After finding a German hockey player was at the bash, some of the University of East Anglia team chanted about how the RAF won the war - and accused offended revellers of having no sense of humour.

"Lots of the rugby boys have a reputation for boozing and partying, but dressing as Baby P and Gary Speed was the last straw. A huge number complained that it was obscene and offensive," the Sun quoted a student as saying.

Baby Peter Connolly died in 2008 after suffering more than 50 injuries inflicted by his mum, her lover and his brother. Wales boss Gary, 42, was found hanged at home last November.

The UEA Mens' Rugby Club was suspended by the Students' Union over "offences of both sexist and racist natures" - and will be reinstated in 2013 with special measures in place to ensure no repeats.

Club president Andy Driver blamed "immature, unruly individuals." (ANI)
