US committed to ties with Pakistan despite ups and downs: Clinton

Washington, Thu, 22 Mar 2012 ANI

Washington, Mar 22(ANI): US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said US is waiting for the results of Pakistan parliament's debate on reviewing bilateral ties and stressed that it is committed to relations with Pakistan despite ups and downs.

It termed Pakistan parliament's review of bilateral ties as significant and expresses hope that both sides will have an "honest, constructive and mutually beneficial relationship."

Clinton also praised the democratic process that Pakistan is engaged in, and reiterated her stance of supporting democracy in the country, The Express Tribune reports.

She said that the US wants an "honest, constructive and mutually beneficial relationship" with Pakistan, and added that they have made clear that they respect "Pakistan's territorial integrity and sovereignty".

Meanwhile, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said the US wants to augment ties with Pakistan.

"We realise there have been bumps in the road," he said, adding that both countries share common interests, especially when it comes to counterterrorism.

"We are willing to discuss the outcome of parliamentary review with Pakistan. It is premature to discuss what Pakistan's parliament might say," he added. (ANI)
