Gilani rules out resignation

Islamabad, Thu, 22 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Mar 22(ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has ruled out his resignation, saying he is a representative of 180 million citizens and added that his resignation was not an ordinary issue like a reshuffle in the cabinet.

"Cabinet reshuffle is a routine matter, my resignation is not. There is no need to worry... parliament, an independent judiciary and the media are functioning properly," The Daily Times quoted Gilani, as saying.

On being asked about the contempt of court proceedings against him, Gilani said the case was being heard in the Pakistan Supreme Court that would decide the matter, in accordance with the law.

He also rejected the notion that his trial had led to political instability in the country.

Gilani said his government is fully committed to consult its coalition partners, and expressed hope that it would get full support and co-operation of the partners.

He reiterated that the Pakistan Parliament would have the final say on re-opening of NATO supply routes. (ANI)
