New Delhi/Gandhinagar, Mar 21 (ANI): Congress Party on Wednesday took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the porngate scandal that has now rocked the Gujarat assembly, where two MLAs have come under the scanner for allegedly watching obscene pictures on a tablet during proceedings.

"It is an unfortunate incident. When MLAs (members of legislative assembly) and ministers of Karnataka were caught hold of watching porn videos, a leader of BJP said that they were only watching it and were not involved in it. We don't know what they do in a silent manner," said Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam.

"In India, this is the party which talks about morality and cultural heritage; and it is very sad to see the downfall of such a party," he added.

Meanwhile, the President of Gujarat state level committee of Congress party, Arjun Modhwadia said that the incident revealed the true character of the ruling BJP.

"Yesterday, their (ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's) two MLAs were watching sex clippings and videos and the witness was the entire media gallery. Today, when we tried to raise this issue and demanded to annul the erring legislators' membership and dismiss them, the opposition was asked to move out of the House," Modhwadia told the media in Gandhinagar.

"Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have shown to the people of the country and the state as to how democracy functions in Gujarat," he added.

The BJP, however, denied the charges and held the Congress Party responsible for alsely implicating the ruling BJP legislators in the 'porngate' scandal.

"The allegations against our two MLAs (BJP MLAs) in Gujarat are totally baseless. They are part of the conspiracy, who defamed Gujarat and that sort of campaign has been going on for a long time. Our MLAs have volunteered to handover their laptops to whichever agency looking into it and technically find out the truth about it," said BJP leader Balbir Punj.

After the porngate scandal in Karnataka that rocked the entire nation, two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs were allegedly caught watching obscene pictures in the state legislature on Wednesday.

Legislators Shankar Chaudhury and Jetha Bharwad reportedly caught seeing obscene pictures of women on their tablets during the House proceedings. (ANI)
