Chelsea seniors might still get axed despite historic win over Napoli

London, Sat, 17 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 17(ANI): Senior players like Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole and even captain John Terry can still face the axe despite reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League after beating Napoli 4-1 at home on Wednesday.

That is also set to go for stand-in coach Roberto Di Matteo, who harbors dreams of landing the Stamford Bridge post on a full-time basis.

Although Chelsea's chief executive Ron Gourlay looks to have given the players a huge vote of confidence, it does not reflect owner Roman Abramovich's thinking.

According to a well-placed source Abramovich doesn't cares about what people think, and would things in his own way.

"Despite the euphoria that followed Chelsea's historic win over Napoli, it is unlikely to have much impact on the owner or lead to a radical change of thinking," The Sun quoted the source, as saying.

"To be honest, he doesn't give a damn what people think. He will do things his own way," the source added.

Chelsea's hopes of winning the Champions League, regarded by Abramovich as the 'Holy Grail', were boosted yesterday by a quarterfinal draw that has seen them avoid the big hitters and face Benfica. (ANI)
