Only Pak Parliament can decide on president's immunity: Information Minister

Islamabad, Thu, 15 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Mar 15(ANI): Pakistan's Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said the immunity of the president is constitutional and can only be withdrawn by the nation's parliament.

Awan said that Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani's legal team is preparing a detailed reply to be submitted to the Supreme Court regarding the latter's order to write a letter to the Swiss authorities.

"The prime minister would not take any action which is above the Constitution as he would never like to see his name amongst the violators of the Constitution," The Express Tribune quoted Awan, as saying.

Awan said the apex court should explain the definition of 'corruption' categorically in connection with the Mehran Bank scandal and added that people involved in it should be exposed.

She also shared details of decisions approved by the Pakistan Cabinet.

The cabinet also approved the National Climate Change Policy, as it considered climate change a major challenge confronting the country. (ANI)
