Premier League boss falls into pool after saying FIFA stole football from England

London, Thu, 15 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 15(ANI): Premier League chairman Sir Dave Richards had an awkward moment when he fell into a fountain pool of a hotel in Doha after he accused the Federation International of Football Association (FIFA) of stealing the football from England.

The incident took place shortly after a gala dinner. The 68 year-old stumbled into an ornamental pool.

Richards was using a sports-security conference in Qatar to attack FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

Recently elected FIFA vice-president Prince Ali Bin Hussein of Jordan was also present at the conference.

"England gave the world football. Then, 50 years later, some guy came along and said you're liars and they actually stole it. It was called FIFA. Fifty years later, another gang came along called UEFA and stole a bit more," The Telegraph quoted Richards, as saying.

Both FIFA and UEFA refused to comment on Richard's comment, but neither needed to spell out how the comments come at a delicate time for British football's international relations.

Meanwhile, the Football Association has distanced itself from Richards' comments and said: "Sir Dave Richards is not representing the FA at this conference and his personal views are in no way shared or endorsed by the FA." (ANI)
