BJP slams Dinesh Trivedi for not paying heed to needs of 'aam aadmi'

New Delhi, Wed, 14 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 14 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi and the central government for not paying any heed to the needs of 'aam aadmi' (common man) while presenting the Rail Budget for fiscal 2012-13.

Speaking to reporters here BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said Trivedi failed to propose any concrete plan to effectively address the problems, which are faced by the railways.

"There is a problem on the safety front, there is a problem on the infrastructure front, and there is problem on the renewal of track and safety and security of passengers. I don't think either of them has been addressed in a constructive, proper and time-bound manner. The only thing noticeable is rise in fares of passengers.

"I think this UPA, the so-called champion of 'Aam Aadmi' has to explain in the light of what I have just heard that the TMC is seeking a rollback then again our old dictum for this government stands that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and again the honourable prime minister is not in control," Prasad said.

Trivedi has drawn flak for raising passenger rail fares from within his own party, the Trinmool Congress (TMC) and has been reportedly asked either to rollback the fares or resign from the ministry. (ANI)
