Washington, Tue, 13 Mar 2012 ANI

Washington, Mar 13(ANI): The lawyer of former Indian-origin Rutgers student Dharun Ravi has rested his case without calling his client to testify in the trial.

The jury could begin deliberating on March 13 after lawyers give their summations and the judge gives instructions, Fox News reports.

Ravi's lawyer Steven Altman said that although he did not think that his client's testimony would be beneficial, the jury might hear from him indirectly in closing arguments.

Altman said he might play a nearly hour-long video of Ravi's statement in which the latter had admitted web-streaming his gay room-mate Tyler Clementi's encounter but said he did not intend to do any harm.

Clementi had later committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge when he learnt that his encounter was web-streamed.

Ravi is not charged with his death but faces 15 criminal counts, including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation. estimony in the trial stretched over 12 days and included about 30 witnesses, including several college students, along with school officials and investigators.

Jurors also heard from Clementi's date in the streamed video but he was identified only by the initials M.B. (ANI)
