Cricket South Africa seeks CEO Majola's replacement

Johannesburg, Tue, 13 Mar 2012 ANI

Johannesburg, Mar.13 (ANI): The race to find a replacement for Cricket South Africa's (CSA) embattled CEO Gerald Majola is heating up ahead of an emergency meeting by the governing body of cricket's executive committee on Wednesday.

According to a report in the The New Age, the top brass of CSA will discuss the damning findings as laid out in the Nicholson inquiry that was initiated by Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula and are expected to demand that Majola step down immediately.

This means the organisation would have to make provision for an interim leader to fulfil Majola's duties.

Weekend reports suggest that International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Haroon Lorgat is the front-runner to take over once his term in charge of world cricket is over.

However, with his contract only expiring in June, CSA might have to look to one of their franchises for a solution, Sports24 reports.

One of the names that surfaced in reports is that of North West Cricket union's Jacques Faul, while Titans chief executive Elise Lombard is also said to be one of the prominent candidates set to make the national step up.

The Department of Sport issued a statement saying the findings of the Nicholson inquiry will first be discussed with President Jacob Zuma and other relative parties before action on the findings and recommendations in the public report is taken. (ANI)
