BJP to oppose every 'interfering' legislature of UPA in budget session: Javadekar

Hyderabad, Mon, 12 Mar 2012 ANI

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (ANI): Condemning the Congress party for attacking the federal governing structure of the country, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has said that it plans to oppose every "interfering legislature of the government" during the budget session of parliament.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told media here that the Congress party, by implementing certain bills, plans to impose its authority on the states.

"The Congress mindset, through various bills, is very clear. They want to take away the powers of the state. The Congress doesn't believe in the federal principles of the Constitution, in this Congress regime federalism is under attack. And, that is why, this will become a main focus of the coming session," Javadekar said.

The Congress government has been facing flak from several state chief ministers for enforcing bills that infringe upon the federal structure of the country.

The establishment of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the Lokpal Bill and the Communal Violence Act have all been opposed by the BJP and other political parties.

Javadekar further said that the UPA-II regime had put the brakes on buoyant economic growth began under the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government.

"The growth rate, which was expected to be eight percent has come down to 6.1 percent in the last quarter. Imports are increasing, exports are getting reduced, the trade gap is widening and the trade deficit is widening," Javadekar said.

The dismal numbers are indicative of the weakness of the economy and how this malaise was spreading beyond industry to the services sectors. (ANI)
