Madhya Pradesh CM orders judicial probe into IPS officer's killing

Bhopal, Fri, 09 Mar 2012 ANI

Bhopal, Mar.9 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday ordered a judicial probe into the murder of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Narendra Kumar Singh, who was crushed to death allegedly by a member of the mining mafia in Morena district.

Singh was crushed to death under the wheels of a tractor-trolley yesterday, allegedly by a member of the mining mafia, when he tried to stop the vehicle which was carrying stones at Banmore in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh.

"We salute the young IPS officer for his daredevilry in checking illegal mining. We have ordered a judicial probe into the incident," Chouhan told reporters after reviewing the matter with state chief secretary Avni Vaish and police chief Nandan Dubey at the Secretariat.

He said the government was dealing with illegal mining in the state in a tough manner and added that the young officer was also doing the same as part of the government stand.

"We stand by his family in this hour of grief and whatever help is needed would be given to them," he said.

The judicial probe will reveal all the facts behind the incident, he added.

Chouhan further said that the opposition Congress should refrain from politicising the issue. By talking about illegal mining at this juncture, the Congress is giving a bad name to the state, he added.

Earlier, the Congress Party took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in Madhya Pradesh over the killing of Narendra Kumar Singh, saying it was their way of tackling corruption.

Condemning the death of the 2009-batch IPS officer, who was mowed down by a tractor-trolley in Madhya Pradesh"""s Morena District yesterday, Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi said: "It is very unfortunate what has happened in Madhya Pradesh. We have full sympathy with the family members of the IPS officer (Narendra Kumar Singh). There should be a judicial inquiry so that the truth comes forward.

"And we have been saying it all over again and again that this is the way of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to tackle corruption. They are fighting it this way only. The whole country knows what is happening in Karnataka with regard to illegal mining. The Madhya Pradesh Government has found out a new way to tackle corruption. We condemn this," he added.

Keshav Dev, father of Narendra Kumar Singh, has said that his son had to pay for his honesty and alleged that the killing was a """well-planned""" conspiracy by the mining mafia of the region.

Singh, who was posted at Banmore as Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), had taken on the mining mafia by seizing number of trucks and tractors engaged in illegal quarrying, (ANI)
