New Delhi, Mar 9 (ANI): The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, released a commemorative stamp in the memory of late freedom fighter and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shyama Charan Shukla.

Releasing the dedicatory stamp here, Dr. Singh said Shukla had high stature as a politician and the values and ideals, which he practiced in his public life, motivated others.

"We are all inspired by the values and thoughts Shyama Charan Shukla had in his long and esteemed career. His work is a fine example of nationalism and social work and we should all learn from it. I think by issuing a stamp in his memory we have given him respect and a small tribute," Dr. Singh said.

Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal, who was also present on the occasion, stated that Shukla was an active freedom fighter and immensely accepted as the chief minister amongst the people of Madhya Pradesh.

"Son of a freedom fighter and the first chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, he was a veteran leader of the Indian National Congress, joined the freedom struggle at the age of 17 and participated actively in the Quit India movement. He was elected the chief minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh thrice. The fact that he held the state thrice is an indication of his popularity with the people," Sibal said.
