Rajiv Shukla dismisses reports of mid-term polls, says no threat to government

New Delhi, Thu, 08 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 8 (ANI): Senior Congress leader and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla on Thursday dismissed reports of mid-term polls, saying there was no threat to the government.

"Everybody is entitled to make their observation, make his comments on any issue. I can only say that this Lok Sabha will last its full term, there is no threat to this government. This government is stable there is no remote possibility of mid term poll," Shukla told reporters here.

Shukla further said that Congress' relations with its allies are very good and they support them.

"The relationship with the allies is very good. There may be differences in one or two issues. It is not necessary that there should be agreement on one or two issues. There may be differences of opinion in one or two issues but that doesn't mean support is not with us. The support is very much with us. There is no problem with the allies any way.

As far as the stability of government is concerned there is no problem, Lok Sabha will last its full term. And there will be no adverse impact on the central government of the recently held polls," he added.

Union Minister of Railways and Trinmool Congress (TMC) leader Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday had said that if there was an anti-Congress wave in the country and the Samajwadi Party and the BJP wanted an early poll then Congress should understand.

His statement had sent tremors across the Congress party as speculations over mid term polls became rife after the party's dismal performance in the recently concluded assembly elections. (ANI)
