Martin claims three wickets in four balls to rip Proteas' batting order on day 1 in first Test

Wellington, Wed, 07 Mar 2012 ANI

Wellington, Mar 7(ANI): Kiwi bowler Chris Martin claimed three wickets in four balls to rip the opponent's top batting order in an action- packed day one of the first Test between New Zealand and South Africa.

He finished the day with figures of 3-34 from 14 overs, and South Africa will resume batting tomorrow with Rudolph on 46 not out and Vernon Philander with him unbeaten on four.iwi captain Ross Taylor grabbed two catches and Trent Boult had a plumb lbw given not out by Aleem Dar that was overturned after review,stuff.co.nz reports.

South Africa had scored 86-1 at tea with both Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla looking untroubled.

But Martin rattled the opponents after the tea session by having Jacques Kallis caught at first slip by Taylor and trapping AB de Villiers with the next ball leaving South Africa reeling at 90-4.

The three quick wickets justified Taylor's decision to bowl first on a largely lifeless pitch prepared by groundsman Tom Tamati and his team.

Daniel Vettori dispatched Amla at 62 and subsequently Boucher was run out by van Wyk. (ANI)
