MEA identifies two Indians killed Malaysia bus accident

New Delhi, Tue, 06 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 6 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday identified the two Indian nationals killed in a bus accident in Malaysia.

The ministry in a press note today informed that Rajendra Kumar Agarwal and Anita Aggarwal died in the accident, which occurred on early Monday morning while carrying 22 Indians from Genting Highlands in Central Malaysia to Singapore.

Mission officials are in touch with both their family members and have offered full assistance in the repatriation of their mortal remains.

It is reported that senior high commission officials have been deployed at hospitals to ensure that injured Indian nationals are given assistance.

Preliminary reports have suggested the bus went out of control and overturned as it was coming down from the Genting Highlands.

Over a dozen passengers were reported injured in the accident, The Star reports.

The accident occurred at KM 4.5 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway, the paper quoted police official Mohammed Yusri Hassan Basri, as saying when he was contacted.

He said police had received a call around 8 a.m. informing them that a bus had gone out of control, hit the road divider and crashed on the other side of the road.

Initial investigations have showed that the bus was speeding.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said five fire engines and 48 rescue personnel were sent to the accident site.

The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Kuala Lumpur and Selayang. The drivers, both in their 20s, have been detained by police to facilitate investigations.

According to Kuala Lumpur Hospital's Emergency and Trauma Department head Dr. Abu Hassan Asaari Abdullah, four injured victims are in critical condition and seven are in semi-critical condition.

All the passengers were from Punjab. (ANI)
