Kejriwal tells 'mentor' Digvijay to reveal Rahul Gandhi's poll campaign expenses

New Delhi, Mon, 05 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 5 (ANI): The brewing standoff between Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh and Team Anna intensified on Monday, after civil right activist Arvind Kejriwal asked the former to reveal details of Rahul Gandhi's poll campaign expenses.

Kejriwal tweeted: "Election is over, and Diggi Raja should now give details of the expenses by Rahul Gandhi on helicopters and campaigning in the Uttar Pradesh elections."

Reacting sharply to Kejriwal's demand, Digvijay Singh said: "If they (Team Anna) can spend 36 lakhs in their days long campaign then he can well imagine how much we must have spent in our month-long rallies."

Singh further said expense reports would be submitted to the Election Commission and not to Kejriwal as he was against the Congress Party.

"We will submit complete expenditure details - which candidate has spent how much. We will submit it to the Election Commission within 30 days. We will submit expenditure details not only of helicopters used by Rahul Gandhi, but also helicopters used by other leaders," he added.

Earlier in the day, defending Kejriwal, social activist Anna Hazare said: "So, what wrong has Arvind Kejriwal said? Transparency should be there."

" The public should be made aware about the money that is spent by the politicians, because it is not their money, it is the money given by the public. If the public has given you money, then you should be giving the details about it to them, he added.

Hazare, who is in Delhi to attend a Team Anna core committee meeting, said: "The money spent during election campaign belongs to the citizens of the country, and they have the right to know how their money was spent.(ANI)
