Disproportionate assets case: 'I am not guilty', says Kripashankar Singh

Mumbai, Sat, 03 Mar 2012 ANI

Mumbai, Mar 3 (ANI): Former Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh, who has been charged with amassing disproportionate assets worth crores of rupees to his known sources of income, on Saturday said that he had done nothing wrong, and added that he will fight as per the law.

Singh also rubbished reports that he was absconding as reported by the media.

"I am not guilty. I am not absconding. I have done nothing wrong. I will fight as per law," he said.

Commenting on the obscene gesture made at the media yesterday by his son Narendra Mohan, Singh said: What my son did was wrong and I apologise on his behalf. The media targeting me and my family is also wrong."

"I do not own those many properties as are being shown," he added.

In an act of sheer arrogance, Singh's son Narendra Mohan had shown the middle finger to mediapersons standing outside his residence on Friday.

The Economics Offences Wing of Mumbai Police had earlier on Friday conducted raids at Kripashankar Singh's premises following which 12 properties owned by the beleaguered Congress leader and his family members were attached.

Singh had also moved the Supreme Court challenging the Bombay High Court's verdict ordering his prosecution in the disproportionate assets case.

The apex court had, however, refused to grant him any immediate relief from action in the corruption case.

The Bombay High Court had on February 22 stated that the certified copy of the memorandum of the PIL shall be treated as an FIR of the petitioner lodged before the police commissioner.

Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by activist Sanjay Tiwari, who alleged that Singh had amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income, the high court had also asked the investigating officer to seize and attach the movable and immovable properties of Singh and his family members.
