I want a real job, says Princess Beatrice

London, Sat, 03 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 3 (ANI): Princess Beatrice wants to be a career-woman and find a job for herself after declining the chance to undertake royal duties for the Queen.

The 23-year-old is to begin a work experience placement next week as she battles along with thousands of other university graduates to find a career.

The fifth-in-line to the throne has been secretly undertaking short periods of low-key work experience, testing out different careers, and is due to start a more prominent placement next week.

She is one of thousands struggling to find a career amid the highest youth unemployment figures since the 1980s.

As the elder daughter of Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York, Beatrice is likely to find more doors open to her than many young jobseekers.

But aides acknowledge that some employers may be reluctant to take on all the baggage and media interest that goes with employing a royal.

"I know Beatrice is actively looking for employment and actively looking for work experience. She is genuinely making some headway," the Daily Express quoted a source as saying.

"Her family are fully supportive of her. She's determined to do it her way, on her own, and at her own pace," the source said.

The Princess has decided she does not want a life of ribbon-cutting, undertaking official engagements on behalf of her grandmother the Queen.

"It is Beatrice's decision. She wants to follow this path and her parents and indeed the whole Palace machinery are supportive of her on that," a source said.

Beatrice, however, has now made it clear she wants to live a more normal life. She has been dating boyfriend Dave Clark, 29, for five years but she is not yet ready to settle down.

"Princess Beatrice is in the middle of several periods of work experience with the aim of securing employment in a field close to her heart," a Buckingham Palace spokesman said.

"These are her choices and she is fully supported by her parents. Like many thousands of her university contemporaries, she is fully committed to finding employment," the spokesman added. (ANI)
