'Mohd. Amir will not appeal against 5-year-ban over spot-fixing row'

Islamabad, Fri, 02 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Mar 2 (ANI): Pakistan's young cricketer Mohammed Amir will reportedly not challenge the sport's highest court in seeking an overturn his five-year-ban for his spot fixing role in a Test series against England in 2010.

"Mohammad Amir told the ICC last week that he will not be appealing against his five-year ban," The Herald Sun quoted an ICC spokesman, as saying today.

Amir returned to Pakistan this week after serving a three-month term at the young offenders institute in Weymouth over the same issue.

Amir returned home with his British lawyer, raising speculations that the 19-year-old cricketer would appeal against the ban imposed on him by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

He was released from the jail at the beginning of this month and the UK Border Agency (UKBA) handed over his passport to his solicitor three days ago.

Amir, and fellow fast bowler Mohammad Asif along with captain Salman Butt were jailed for taking bribes from bookie Mazhar Majeed to bowl no-balls in a Test match against England at Lord's in 2010. (ANI)
