Pak military coup threat following Abbottabad operation was real, says Ijaz

Islamabad, Fri, 02 Mar 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Mar 2 (ANI): Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz, the key man in the Memo Gate issue, has said that there was real a threat of military coup in Pakistan following the US covert operation in Abbottabad, in which American commandos killed former Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.ansoor added that the threat was also confirmed by the security agencies of four other countries.

"I had credible information from a well-informed source in the written form that Pakistan was heading towards another bloodless coup following the Abbottabad operation. Also I had received a classified draft about ISI Chief Pasha's visit and the Abbottabad operation," The Nation quoted Mansoor, as saying. However, he refused to reveal the source when asked.

He further said that the information about the 'bloodless coup' was based on the secret draft he had received from a reliable source, adding that he had to pass the 'memo' to a higher American official, following the confirmation of Haqqani's claim by the officials of the secret services of four different countries.

He said that following the details given by Hussain Haqqani about the army coup in Pakistan, he had contacted sources within four top intelligence agencies, which also verified the assertion.

"After that I decided to forward the memo to General James Jones," Mansoor told the commission.

On a query by the panel, Mansoor agreed to send the classified document, containing all the details about the meetings held between Gen Ishfaq Parvez Kayani and President Asif Ali Zardari on May 12, 2011 after the Abbottabad raid.

"Send us the document in a sealed envelope with a signature of the secretary of judicial commission," the panel directed Ijaz. (ANI)
