Testimony by witness could prove most damaging against Indian-origin ex-Rutgers student

New York, Mar.1 (ANI):Testimony by a witness of Indian-origin is likely to prove the most damaging against an Indian-origin former Rutgers student, Dharun Ravi, in connection with a case involving the use of a webcam that was trained on a man.

Lokesh Ojha's account, according to the New York Daily News, might be the most damaging testimony yet against Ravi.

Prosecutors say Dharun Ravi was a mean-spirited cyber bully, who web streamed gay Rutgers roommate Tyler Clementi's tryst, which eventually led to the latter committing suicide.

Ravi has been accused of bias intimidation and invasion of privacy for spying on Clementi.

His defense, however, has launched a brutal cross-examination in which Ojha admitted that he lied to cops when first questioned.

"I was a freshman. I thought my college career was over," he explained.

In his testimony, Ojha revealed that on Sept. 21, 2010, Ravi used his computer to check the video stream from the dorm room he shared with Clementi.

"He told me to check the angle on his webcam," Ojha said.

Ojha watched the screen as Ravi went back to his room and "moved his computer like an inch" until he got the thumb's up that the angle was correct.

When the prosecutor asked what Ojha saw when the webcam was adjusted, he replied, "I saw Tyler's bed."

Ojha said Ravi also told him to text friends on Sept. 19 and 21 - the two spying incidents - and urge them to check his Twitter feed.

He said that on Sept. 21, he clicked on Ravi's iChat icon during the hours Clementi had asked to have the room alone and got an error message.

Ravi told him, "I've been getting that from a lot of people,'" he said.

The testimony underscores the prosecution's contention that Ravi tried to turn Clementi's private moment with a lover into a public viewing.

The day after the second viewing, Clementi jumped off the George Washington Bridge.

Authorities say he knew Ravi had spied on him. (ANI)
