Longest paper aeroplane flight creates world record in US

London, Wed, 29 Feb 2012 ANI

London, Feb 29 (ANI): A paper aeroplane throw covering a distance of 226 feet, 10 inches created a new world record in California.

Inside a hangar at McClellan Air Force Base near Sacramento, Joe Ayoob's throw shattered the previous world record of 207 feet, 4 inches (63 metres).

Footage shows the plane soaring high up in the hangar, then making a worrying descent close to the floor.

Huge cheers erupted as the plane finally flew past the world record marker.

The paper plane flew more than nine feet further than the previous record, achieving a distance of 226 feet, 10 inches (69.1m metres)

Designed by John Collins, who has designed aeroplanes for many years, the paper plane was made from 100gsm, A4 paper and a very small piece of sticky tape.

"I grew up making paper airplanes," the Telegraph quoted Ayoob as telling ESPN.

"I used to make paper airplanes and throw them all the way home from school when I was little. So it was kind of up my alley. I thought it was a cool idea.

"Some people might think, 'What's the big deal? It's just a paper airplane. But it's a world record. It took a lot of time for John, and it took a lot of time for me working with John to achieve this. ... It's very rewarding, and I'm very proud of this record," he said. (ANI)
