Committee to finalise draft bill to tame Delhi placement agencies

New Delhi, Mon, 27 Feb 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Feb.27 (ANI): Delhi Labour Minister Ramakant Goswami on Monday said the state government has constituted a committee to expedite the finalisation of a draft bill to tame placement agencies in the capital.

The committee has been directed to finalise a comprehensive bill with sharp teeth to overcome problems being faced by the families/institutions/establishments in respect of services being rendered by such agencies.

The composition of the committee is rational as well as elaborate as representation has been given to the representatives of trade unions, Delhi Police, Department of Information and Publicity, Department of Law and Justice, Placement Agencies and others representatives of Department of Labour, Department of Home and Union Labour Ministry.

The 15-member committee will be headed by the Principal Secretary, Labour. The Labour Commissioner will act as its Member Secretary.

Goswami said the present acts have not sufficed to curb the activities of placement agencies which have been found to be involved in extorting huge amounts of money from their clients apart from exploiting maids / security guards being provided by them. (ANI)
