New Delhi, Sat, 25 Feb 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Feb.25 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation was conducting raids across India on Saturday in connection with the controversial BSNL-WiMax deal.

The raids relate to allegations that former telecom minister A Raja forced BSNL to sign a deal with a private firm - Starnet-to procure WiMax technology.

Four senior BSNL officials are being questioned for their role in facilitating the signing of the deal with Starnet.

Raids have been conducted in Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Gurgaon. Raids are also being conducted at nine places in Tamil Nadu.

The eligibility conditions stipulate that the company should have a turn over of Rs.100 crore and above which was allegedly achieved by manipulation of Starnet's balance sheet.

The Central Vigilance Commission has discovered irregularities in the allotment of franchise to Starnet. (ANI)
