Pak's NAB to review politicians' white collar crime cases

Islamabad , Thu, 23 Feb 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Feb 23(ANI): Pakistan's National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has formed a committee to review pending cases of white collar crimes involving politicians.

"While discussing some of the cases against politicians, the board constituted a committee to review the politically motivated cases against legislators pending since long," The Dawn quoted a NAB spokesperson Shiraz Latif, as saying.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the bureau's executive board presided over by NAB chairman Admiral (retired) Fasih Bokhari.

Latif said the Bokhari expressed anger over the delay in submission of the cases and directed officials to highlight them.

"If in one case an accused is punished, the other cases against him should not take long. But all decisions should be taken on merit," Latif quoted Admiral (retd) Bokhari as saying:

According to the official handout, the board decided to hand over the scams of the Rawalpindi Employees Cooperative Housing Society and the National Assembly Cooperative Housing Society to NAB's special division for further probe into them.

The officials concerned were directed to complete the inquiry within one week against a former deputy secretary of the National Assembly Secretariat Tariq Ayub Khakwania, who has been accused of committing irregularities in the National Assembly Cooperative Housing Society. (ANI)
