Army organises motivational tour for senior citizens in Kashmir

Poonch (J-K), Feb.21 (ANI): The Indian Army has organised a motivational tour for senior citizens in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch District.

 

The tour was flagged off on Monday .

 

The tour was organised under the flagship Operation Sadbhavana (harmony), and the aim of the tour is to provide an opportunity to the elders of the restive area to see the rich cultural and historical heritage of the various parts of the country.

 

Apart from the elders, others who are part of the tour are those who were injured in cross border firing and mines blast that had occurred in the valley.

 

Gulshan Sharma, a senior citizen, said that he was delighted to go on the tour and expressed his gratitude to the Indian Army.

 

"We have selected the elderly mainly from the backward areas of the state, as we want them to see how are country is treading on the path of growth. We want them that they should similarly develop their own area," said Sharma.

 

The tour was flagged off by the Brigade commander of 13-Raj Rifle regiment of Krishna Ghati (KG) of Poonch district, Brigadier Narinder Kumar Sharma.

 

"We have selected the elderly mainly from the backward areas of the state, as we want them to see how are country is treading on the path of growth. We want them that they should similarly develop their own area," said Sharma.

 

He also said that the Army had selected the people mainly belonging to economically underdeveloped areas of the state.

 

The initiative of the Army is aimed at building a close bond with the people of the state, which has been marred by violence since more than two decades. (ANI)
