Mayawati's claim of creating fearless UP society ridiculous: Mulayam Singh

Lucknow, Feb.20 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati promise of creating a fearless society in the state was ridiculous, especially when crime statistics indicated that 1,900 incidents of rape had taken place in the state under the BSP regime, said Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday.

"BSP claims it has given 'bhay-mukt samaj' but the truth is different. There were 1,900 rapes during the Mayawati regime," Yadav said at a poll meeting in Auraiya.

Candidly revealing that there were 1,300 rape cases when the Samajwadi Party was in power between 2002 and 2007, Mulayam said that the difference between his government and that of Mayawati was that he took strict action against the accused.

"Strict action was taken against those involved in rape incidents during SP regime, but now the accused are roaming fearlessly," he said. (ANI)
