Kolkata , Mon, 20 Feb 2012 ANI

Kolkata, Feb 20 (ANI): Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) leader Prakash Karat has slammed the Congress-led UPA Government for compromising the nation's pride by indulging in corrupt practices.

Addressing the party's 23rd state seminar here, Karat said corruption and financial irregularities have prevented the government from curbing soaring inflation and fuel prices.

"The United Progressive Alliance has made a new record in corruption. Since the government has come to power we have all witnessed the hike in food and inflationary prices that have now touched a new soaring high in a span of 38 months," said Karat.

Taking a dig at Centre, Karat said that it would again announce a fuel price hike once the assembly polls concluded.

"As polls are underway in five states, they have decided the moment elections get over like polls in Uttar Pradesh finishes in the first week of March and again hike in fuel price would be announced," said Karat.

Karat also said: ""The Congress party and TMC are a part of the same government. But the Trinamool Congress has double standards when it comes to any issue concerning the common man."

He further said that the West Bengal would continue to be a bastion of the 'red flag', the banner of the CPM -led Left Front. (ANI)
