New Delhi, Feb 19 (ANI): Vivek Oberoi and tennis ace Leander Paes came out to support a special show to create awareness against human trafficking, at the ongoing Fashion Week in New Delhi.

The show, which took place on Friday, was organised by the Fashion Design Council of India in collaboration with a non-profit organisation. It was inspired by a sex worker who was rescued from the clutches of human traffickers in the capital city.

The show started with a narrative song, which reflected the emotions and adverse circumstances that pushed the sex trafficking victims into the flesh trade.

"The whole theme that he came up with, the Alice in wonderland theme was creative and the support that we have had from so many amazing people that have come forward to make a difference in our country, in India to give every boy and girl an opportunity to be free is something that is a worldwide phenomena, that's needed. If you look at what 'You Can Free Us' organisation is doing, they are looking to eradicate human trafficking around the world," said Paes.

Actor Vivek Oberoi spoke about how his support for the cause came about after he heard the story of a teenage victim.

"My personal change or motivation came from meeting a kid on one of my social visits. A girl, who is 13 years old, who had been rescued from the trafficking racket and she had a skin problem, a skin disorder", he said.

"It didn't come from anything else, it came from the fact that she felt the need to scrub herself and bath 7- 8 times a day and to a point that she felt like she needed to use detergent, the soap used for washing clothes.

"She needed to use that on her skin to feel clean because she felt dirty after being violated at that tender age and that really motivated me and I felt that if we can do that, if we can give these girls a new chance, it's like a gift of life," he added.

The dresses exhibited at the fashion show were created by renowned designers like Manish Arora, Suneet Varma, JJ Valaya, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Tarun Tahiliani, Ashish Soni, Ritu Beri and Ashima-Leena, among others. (ANI)
