Iran 'smart enough not to attack Jews, Israeli institutions in America'

Washington, Wed, 15 Feb 2012 ANI

Washington, Feb 15 (ANI): The United States intelligence community has said there is no increased threat to Jews in America, in spite of car bombs in India and Georgia recently targeted Israeli officials.

Israel blamed Iran and Hezbollah for the recent attack, saying they were 'intent on sabotaging the Israeli way of life and operating against Israelis all over the world.'

FBI and the Department of Homeland Security last week issued a joint intelligence bulletin, saying the US government has no information suggesting Iran or its surrogates are targeting Jewish community in America, Fox News reports.

"Threats against Israeli or Jewish targets in Asia and Europe, attacks on nuclear scientists in Iran, global economic sanctions against Iran, and reports of Israel's "possible intent to attack Iran's nuclear facilities" have "contributed to the perception of an increased threat to the Jewish community worldwide from Iran or its surrogates," the bulletin read.

"But, the US government has no specific information that Iran or its surrogates are targeting Jewish organizations, facilities, or personnel in the United States," the bulletin said.

"These recent events and recent heightened tensions with Iran have not significantly increased the threat to Jewish personnel in the United States," it concluded.

An intelligence source said that he is aware of no information suggesting any current, credible threat to Jewish or Israeli institutions in the US, adding that Iran is 'smart' and 'they know that it's very tough to do stuff in the United States.'

Meanwhile, in Israel, police raised the state of alert on Monday after a man on a motorcycle stuck a magnet bomb on an Israeli diplomatic car in New Delhi, India, wounding four people.

In Tbilisi, the Georgian capital, a similar device was discovered on the car of a local staff member of the Israeli Embassy, but was defused by the police. (ANI)
