Shatrughan Sinha slams Congress for nurturing corrupt politicians

Allahabad, Tue, 14 Feb 2012 ANI

Allahabad, Feb 14 (ANI): Veteran actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shatrughan Sinha has accused the ruling Congress party of nurturing corrupt politicians.

"For the first time in the history of India, a full-fledged cabinet minister (former telecom minister, A. Raja) is imprisoned in Tihar jail. A lot of other ministers and the government officials are in the jail today for their alleged involvement in Commonwealth Games scam, many of them have been released on bail and apart from that, Home Minister (P. Chidambaram) had a narrow escape for his alleged involvement in the telecom scam," Sinha told a gathering here.

"The height of the corruption in the country forced the great saint of the country, saint amongst the saints, ascetic amongst the ascetic, the messiah (angel) of the country Anna Hazare to take on roads in order to fight against graft," he added.

He also accused Law Minister Salman Khurshid of practising divisive politics through uslim reservation amid crucial provincial polls in the state.

Sinha accused the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of s misgovernance and looting public money in the state.

"The funds meant for the poor, the money of the common public, funds allocated for the education of the students, the funds which should be spent on generating employment opportunities for the unemployed youth, the money which would have been used for establishing industries and which would have been used for other developmental projects, all of those funds were invested on building statues, constructing parks, and which is creating chaos among the public, so what should we do in such condition?" he asked.

The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
