Over 1 in 3 Brits wake up grumpy in anticipation of work-related stress

London, Tue, 14 Feb 2012 ANI

London, Feb 14 (ANI): More than a third of the working population in Britain fear the alarm clock going off and rush back under the blanket to defer the prospect of hard work for a further few minutes, a new study has revealed.

While, on the other hand, 80 per cent of pensioners get up happy, as they do not have to worry about work ahead.

Researchers at YouGov quizzed 2,032 adults on behalf of pomegranate juice company PomeGreat and found that bad -morning moods are linked to the anticipation of stress in the day ahead, the Daily Express reported.

Monday is the grumpiest morning with one in four wishing that they didn't have to go to work. Women hate Mondays the most, with 29 per cent unhappy at the start of the week compared to 26 per cent of men.

"Work has become so stressful now that more and more of us are producing the -hormone cortisol in reaction to stress and becoming more irritable, anxious, aggressive and as a result more unhappy in general," Expert Dr Dorian Dugmore said.

"But in retirement the -pressure to perform is off, meaning less cortisol is produced, making people happier," Dr Dugmore added. (ANI)
