No moral justification left for Gilani to continue premiership: Imran Khan

Islamabad , Tue, 14 Feb 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Feb 14 (ANI): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said there is no moral justification left for Yousuf Raza Gilani to continue with his premiership.

"What moral justification does Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani have after being indicted with contempt charges?" The Express Tribune quoted Khan, as saying.

Yesterday, Gilani was indicted by the Supreme Court over contempt of court charges in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) case.

Giving its verdict, the Supreme Court said: "Gilani did not act on the Supreme Court's order".

Although Gilani denied all charges against him, he said he was ready to go to jail.

Meanwhile, Imran said that Gilani should resign from his post over the Supreme Court verdict. The Supreme Court is operating cautiously in all its proceedings, so rather than pressurising it, you [Gilani] should resign as there is no justification for you [Gilani] to continue as the prime minister of Pakistan," he said.

Khan further said that democracy is governed by "morality, not force," as force "remains with the armed forces." (ANI)
