New Delhi, Jan 31 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs in a press release today informed hat Indian Government is providing additional humanitarian assistance to Libya worth one illion US dollars.
India's humanitarian assistance, consisting of life saving medicines and medical equipment, was anded over to the National Transitional Council of Libya, in Tripoli, on January 30, by Rajeev hahare, Joint Secretary (West Asia and North Africa), Ministry of External Affairs.
The National Transitional Council had earlier provided a list of life saving drugs to India and hese medicines were selected as per requirements of Libya.
The Indian Government had earlier provided assistance worth one million dollars in cash to the ational Transitional Council through the United Nation's Office of Commissioner for umanitarian Aid in New York.
India has been supportive of the people of Libya and has, on various occasions, interacted with he National Transitional Council in London, Istanbul and Paris meeting including in the United ations.
The interim Government of National Transitional Council has been considering sending injured ibyan nationals for their medical treatment to India. Indian authorities have welcomed this ove and are looking forward to receive injured Libyan patients in India.
In this regard a Libyan delegation has already visited India in December, last year, to tie up reatment of injured Libyan patients in reputed hospitals.
The Government of India is also arranging to send a team of 'Jaipur Foot' to Tripoli. The team ould be providing prostheses (artificial limbs) to the injured Libyans and would set up a centre n Libya and provide readymade artificial limbs to injured Libyan patients. (ANI)
