Trade strain between US and China could aggravate: Economists

Beijing, Mon, 30 Jan 2012 ANI

Beijing, Jan30 (ANI): Economists have predicted an increase in trade tensions between China and the Unites States due to the current global financial outlook and the US election politics.

"What I worry about are trade tensions between China and the US," China Daily quoted Stephen Roach, a senior research fellow at Yale University's Jackson Institute for Global Affairs during the World Economic Forum.

Although Roach didn't give details about who was responsible for the growing trade tensions between the two economies but he termed Chinese economy as his 'favorite'.I don't think trade friction between China and other economies will grow, but my worry is about (the frictions between) China and the US. Trade tensions are going to be a major feature amid the shift in the global environment in the next few years," he added.

At the World Economic Forum, Li Daokui, policy adviser of China's Central bank and director of the Center for China also pin pointed the trade tensions between the two world economies as a major concern.

We must pay close attention to growing trade tensions between China and the US," said Li, adding that protectionism does not help protect US jobs.

Daokui also believes tensions between China and US can influence the already depressing economic viewpoint.

"If trade tensions (between China and the US) grow I am afraid this will further dim the already gloomy economic outlook," he added.

Gao Jifan, the president of China's leading solar power equipment producer Trina Solar has urged the US government to create a just environment in which its enterprises can vie.

"We welcome the US government to create a fair environment in which its enterprises can compete instead of using punitive measures," said Jifan. (ANI)
