Falak still critical even as Delhi Police launches manhunt for tormentors

New Delhi, Mon, 30 Jan 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Jan.30 (ANI): The Delhi Police has said that it has launched a massive manhunt to locate the tormentors of two-year-old Falak, adding that two teams have been sent to Mumbai and Bihar to search for the key accused Raj Kumar.

Police claimed it is close to cracking the case of Falak as it questioned a woman who got the child from her biological mother.

Investigators said they have identified a crucial link and a woman named Lakshmi is being questioned.

Falak was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) about two weeks ago by a teenaged girl.

Meanwhile, doctors at the AIIMS Trauma Centre have said that Falak has undergone a second surgery, and remains critical with a 50 percent chance of survival.

Medical reports have revealed water accumulation in Falak's brain, compelling doctors to operate her this afternoon, to ensure that she does not enter into a more serious phase.

As the child entered into the 13th day of her stay in the hospital, doctors attending on her at the Intensive Care Unit of Jai Prakash Narayan AIIMS Trauma Centre said Falak had to be put back on ventilator this morning.

Dr Deepak Aggarwal, a neurosurgeon attending to the girl said: "We did a surgery on her brain some time back. Fluid had accumulated in her brain and it needed to be taken out. It would have been fatal for her if we had not done the surgery promptly."

The two-year-old child was brought to the hospital on January 18.

"The first surgery was conducted for removal of a blood clot in the brain. It was conducted immediately after her admission here," Dr. Aggarwal said.

The fluid sample collected from her brain will be tested for any infection, he said.

Falak was brought to the hospital with a severe head injury, both her arms broken, bite marks all over her body and her cheeks branded with a hot iron.

Forensic scientists are yet to verify if the marks on her body are human. (ANI)
