Islamabad, Jan 26(ANI): Film-maker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has become the first Pakistani to win an Oscar nomination for the best documentary in the short subject category.

Her documentary titled 'Saving Face' highlights acid attacks on women in Pakistan, and chronicles the work of acclaimed British-Pakistani plastic surgeon Mohammad Jawad.

Chinoy said she is "speechless" to receive the nomination which was the "stuff dreams are made of".

"An Academy Award nomination is stuff dreams are made of. It has reaffirmed my belief it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, if you put quality work out there, it will be appreciated.I hope I can make Pakistan proud by bringing home an Oscar," The BBC quoted Chinoy, as saying.

Acid attacks are under-reported in Pakistan, with official figures saying only 100 such cases of acid violence occur every year.

The documentary was filmed entirely in Pakistan, including Rawalpindi, Karachi and Islamabad. (ANI)
