Farooq Abdullah condemns shoe-hurling incident on Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi , Tue, 24 Jan 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Jan 24 (ANI): Union Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday condemned the shoe attack on Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, and said that the lawmakers are even unwilling to debate in Parliament.

"These are things that happen in our democracy. You throw a shoe, how does that matter? I am grateful to Rahul Gandhi by saying throw another one'. Do you think it will change anyone? It just show that how narrow-minded we have become that you are not ready to hear the other side and you just throw shoes," Abdullah told mediapersons on the sidelines of a function here.

"This is not what Indian democracy shows me. We should have patience to listen. We have created same thing in the parliament. They (Parliamentarians) do not debate, they shout, which is a tragedy for Indian democracy," he added.

Kuldeep Singh, 26, hurled a shoe towards Rahul Gandhi's dais as soon as he begun addressing his last poll rally at Vikasnagar in the outskirts of Dehradun on Monday.

The shoe-hurling incident on the Amethi MP came two days after a similar attack on Team Anna members in Uttarakhand. A slipper was hurled at Team Anna members during a public rally in Dehradun on Saturday. (ANI)
