Congress slams BJP Govt. in Uttarakhand for misgovernance

Dehradun, Tue, 24 Jan 2012 ANI

Dehradun, Jan 24 (ANI): Congress leader Girija Vyas on Tuesday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in Uttarakhand for changing five chief ministers in six years, and said that the people of the state are harried with atrocities and lethargy of the latter.

"People are harried with their (BJP) atrocities and lethargy and the public has understood that by changing five chief ministers in six years will not solve the problems," Vyas told reporters here.

"They could only be solved by working towards development, fighting corruption, reaching out to the women, by maintaining the economic development rate and by developing sectors like heath and education and the UPA Government has achieved these goals," she added.

Vyas said that 419 cases of corruption, involving BJP ministers, have come to light in Uttarakhand, and added that the state government has not even spent half of the funds sanctioned by the Centre for development of the region.

"Though they talk of bringing Lokayukta, but during the regime of BJP there were 419 cases of corruption and everyone knows land scam, mines scam, irregularities in the finances of Kumbh fair, the rural health scam (National Rural Health Mission) and NREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) has been brought to light by the media," she said.yas further expressed confidence that the Congress Party will form the government in Uttarakhand after the assembly polls.

Political mercury is at a high in poll-bound Uttarakhand state, where the main fight is between the current incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress Party.

Polling for the Uttarakhand legislative assembly would be held on January 30. (ANI)
