Ludhiana/Gurdaspur, Jan 21 (ANI): The Congress Party has blamed the ruling Akali Dal -BJP government in party in Punjab for the rampant unemployment in the state and accused it of looting public money.

The President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Captain Amarinder Singh, addressing a rally in Ludhiana on Friday said that the Chief Minister's family is involved in all kinds of business in the state, be it alcohol, cable networks, etc., and added that they have neglected the issue of unemployment.

"They (Punjab Government) only think about looting Punjab. They are into everything, be it alcohol, Television channels, cable networks, transport companies. They are earning and controlling everything here. Now what will our youth do? What will be the future of this state?" said Singh.

"By saying that I will make Ludhiana into another California and I will get a metro rail system here is not enough. I had told him (Parkash Singh Badal) back then also that you are incapable of all this and don't make castles in the air. These Badals have lied at every step and they still do," he added, while continuing his attack on the state chief minister.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, addressing a rally in Gurdaspur city, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal hit out at the Congress Party.

"The Congress has ruled for the majority of 65 years since the independence of the country. Also they have ruled in Punjab too. Have they solved any of the major issues plaguing the country? The common problems of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, corruption are still very much prevalent," said Badal.

Punjab is one of five states due to hold elections this year. As per the schedule planned by Election Commission, the state assembly poll in Punjab would be held on January 30.

In Punjab, the main battle is expected to be between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)- Bharatiya Janata Party alliance and the Congress party. Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and son of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, heads the SAD. (ANI)
