2G scam: Delhi court reserves order for Feb 4 on Swamy's plea against Chidambaram

New Delhi, Jan 21 (ANI): A Delhi court today reserved its order for February 4 on Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy's plea seeking prosecution of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum scam case.

The Patiala House Court here will now deliver its order on Swamy's petition on February 4.

The latest developments in the case came after Swamy presented his case before the court earlier today.

He has argued that several documents including the minutes of a series of meetings between Chidambaram and former Telecom Minister A Raja in 2008 prove Chidambaram's complicity with Raja in the 2G spectrum scam.

Swamy had earlier on January 7 submitted documents seeking prosecution of P. Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum scam case before a Delhi court.

Chidambaram has been at the center of political storm ever since certain reports accused him of having played a role in "deciding" the prices of 2G-spectrum during his earlier tenure as the Finance Minister, thus embroiling him in the telecom scam.

His name cropped up in a recent report sent by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, in which it was suggested that Chidambaram could have insisted that established procedures should have been followed in auctioning of the 2G spectrum.

The letter stated that sufficient steps were not taken by Chidambaram to prevent the colossal scam from occurring in the first place, considering he could have "stuck to the stand" of auctioning of the precious spectrum instead of giving it at throwaway prices.

The telecom scam, one of India's biggest graft cases ever, may have cost 39.57 billion dollars in revenue to the public exchequer as per the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

Raja was sacked last November and later arrested after being charged with giving away telecom licenses in 2008 at meager prices. (ANI)
